“Reds” (1981) starring Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, and Jack Nicholson, is a fictionalized cinematic celebration of the experiences of the American writer (and Communist enthusiast) John Reed, author of Ten Days that Shook the World. Although a later Hollywood production, it suggests the appeal of the October Revolution to Western intellectuals. It will be shown at the Campus Theatre on Sat. Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. Admission is free. The film will be introduced briefly with a presentation of its historical context including an evaluation of Reed’s work in light of today’s scholarship on the Revolution.
